My Totally Legit Guide to Farming Primogems and Genesis Crystals in Genshin Impact

🎮✨ Hit tip: Get Genshin Impact Free Primogems and Genesis Crystals

My Secret Stash for Hoarding Primogems (and Genesis Crystals!)

Hey everyone! It’s me, your resident Teyvat hoarder. 👋

So, let’s be real for a second. We’ve all been there. You’re staring at that new character banner—maybe it’s Zhongli, maybe it’s Raiden, maybe it’s that shiny new waifu/husbando you’ve been saving for—and you check your Primogem count. You have… 12. And 3 Stardust.

Panic sets in.

I remember back when I first started playing, I thought Primogems just fell from the sky like rain. Spoiler alert: they don’t (unless you count the Genesis Crystals you buy, but we’ll get to that). I used to pull on every single banner just because "ooh, shiny!" and then I’d hit AR 45 and realize I had no resources to actually build the characters I got. It was a mess.

But over the years, I’ve learned the art of the stash. Whether you’re a strict Free-to-Play (F2P) warrior or a Welkin Moon low-spender like me, here is my completely unfiltered, slightly chaotic guide to keeping your Primogem wallet fat and happy.

1. The Daily Grind: Don’t Skip Your Dailies! (Seriously, don’t.)

Okay, this is the bread and butter. I know, doing the same commissions every day feels like a chore sometimes. But here’s the math that broke my heart: 60 Primogems a day.

That’s 420 a week. It doesn’t sound like much, right? Until you realize that over a month, that’s 1,800 Primogems. That’s basically a ten-pull right there, just for talking to Pallad or beating up some slimes.

My Pro Tip: I actually map out my dailies based on which region gives the easiest dialogue options. I’m looking at you, Mondstadt. Liyue takes forever because everyone wants to tell me their life story. I just want the gems, NPC! Save the lore for the actual quests!

2. The "Spiral Abyss" Anxiety (and How to Cope)

Ah, the Spiral Abyss. The place where dreams go to die (or flourish). Every two weeks, it resets. Floor 9 and 10 are usually pretty chill—just bring a decent healer and some elemental coverage. Floor 11 and 12? That’s where the sweatiness kicks in.

If you can 36-star it, that’s 800 Primogems every two weeks. If you’re like me and you get stuck on 12-3 with 35 stars? That’s still 600+ gems. Don’t let the meta YouTubers scare you. Even getting halfway there is free money.

Personal Anecdote: I once spent three hours on Floor 12 trying to beat it by 10 seconds. I failed. I rage-quit. I ate a pint of ice cream. But the next cycle, I got it. The ice cream was worth it either way.

3. The "Read Everything" Strategy (Exploration & Quests)

This is my favorite part of the game, honestly. Just playing the game!

  • Chests: Every chest you open gives you a little bit of Primogem joy. Common chests are small, but they add up. I still find chests in Mondstadt that I missed three years ago. It’s like finding a $5 bill in an old pair of jeans.
  • Teleport Waypoints: Unlocking them gives you gems. If you’re a new player, just walking around and exploring is a goldmine.
  • Archon & World Quests: These are long, sure, but they pay out. I treat them like a mini-series. Grab some snacks, put on some music, and just vibe through the story. The Primogems are your reward for paying attention (or skipping dialogue, no judgment here).

4. The "Paimon’s Bargains" Shuffle (Stardust & Stardust)

This is the part where I see a lot of new players mess up. You pull on a banner, you get duplicates, and you get Stardust and Starglitter.

Do NOT waste your Stardust on Mora or Exp books. Those are easy to farm. Go to Paimon’s Bargains and buy the Intertwined Fates. You get 5 per month. That’s 5 extra pulls! It’s basically free money for just playing the game.

Note: If you’re super new and don’t pull much, you might not have enough Stardust. In that case, hoard it until you can buy the fates. Patience is a virtue!

5. The "Event Horizon"

Genshin events are where the big bucks live. A major event usually drops around 900 to 1,000 Primogems, plus a free weapon or character sometimes.

My Quirk: I am terrible at the mini-games. Like, terrible. The rhythm games? I fail them. The tower defense? I get overwhelmed. But I force myself to do them because Mihoyo (sorry, HoYoverse) is literally handing me currency. I complain the whole time, but my Primogem count smiles at me.

6. Let’s Talk Money: Genesis Crystals & Welkin Moon

Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room. Sometimes we want to swipe the card. I’m a Welkin Moon player. It’s $5, and you get 300 Genesis Crystals instantly, plus 90 Primogems a day for 30 days.

Here’s the trick with Genesis Crystals:

You use them to buy Primogems directly (1:1 ratio), but NEVER do that unless you’re desperate. The value is terrible compared to the Welkin.

If you have leftover Genesis Crystals (like if you buy a skin or get a bonus from a top-up), they stay in your account. You can convert them to Primogems later, but I usually keep mine separate in my head so I don't accidentally spend them on a skin I don't need.

Funny story: I once accidentally bought the wrong crystal pack because I was pulling at 3 AM. I was so mad I had to take a nap. Don't be like me. Double-check your purchase.

7. The "Maintenance" & "Redemption Codes" Hustle

Whenever Genshin updates, we get maintenance compensation. That’s usually 300 Primogems. Sometimes they mess up a code or have a livestream, and we get redemption codes for another 300.

How to not miss them:

I follow a few Twitter accounts or check the Genshin Impact official HoYoLAB site. It takes 30 seconds. If you miss the codes, you’re literally throwing away free gems. It’s like leaving money on the table at a restaurant. Pick it up!

8. The Mental Game: The "Skip" Button

This is the hardest part. The temptation to pull on the "Chronicled Banner" or a banner for a character you kinda like but don't love.

My rule? The "Wait 24 Hours" Rule.

If I see a new banner and my finger is hovering over the "Pull" button, I close the game. I wait a day. Do I really want this character? Do I have the materials to level them? If the answer is "I just think they're cool," I might do a 10-pull. But if I'm saving for a specific 5-star, I put the phone down and walk away.

It’s hard. I have FOMO. But seeing that 15,000 Primogem count at the end of the month? That’s a better feeling than a 50/50 win.

Final Thoughts

Genshin Impact is a marathon, not a sprint. Some days you’ll get lucky and pull a C1 in 10 pulls (bless RNGesus). Other days you’ll hit hard pity at 80 pulls and cry a little.

But by doing your dailies, exploring the world, and being smart about your events and shop, you’ll never feel completely broke. And remember: it’s just a game. Unless you’re me, at 2 AM, staring at the screen begging for a gold drop. Then it’s very serious business.

Good luck on your pulls, travelers! May your 50/50s be won and your artifact rolls be perfect. ✨
